This study is an invitation to learn directly from Keneihu and Shawma Yawanawa, listening deeply to the songs, understanding the stories and teachings they carry and developing a relationship with what you are singing.
Because when we learn a song from its source, we receive more than its melody.
We begin to understand where it comes from.

YAWANAWA MUSIC
The Yawanawá people live in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, carrying an ancestral musical tradition deeply connected to nature and spirit.
At the heart of this tradition are the saitis, ancestral prayers passed down through generations and sung since ancient times.
Over time, these prayers also found expression through musical instruments, giving rise to the extraordinary guitar songs heard today.
During this study, you'll have the opportunity to explore both traditional saitis and guitar songs, directly with two young leaders carrying this lineage forward. Guitar is optional, you do not need to play an instrument to participate.

KENEIHU YAWANAWA
Keneihu is the eldest daughter of Matsini Yawanawa, chief of Mutum Village and an important spiritual leader among his people.
Guided by her father’s teachings, Keneihu has grown into a powerful young female leader and musician, known for the depth and beauty of her voice.
Her music has taken her into projects around the world, while her work remains rooted in representing and teaching the tradition of her people.
SHAWMA YAWANAWA
Shawma is the son of Chief Nixiwaka Yawanawa and carries a deep devotion to his lineage and the wisdom of his people.
Guided by sacred diets and traditional teachings, his presence brings together music, prayer and a profound connection to Yawanawa tradition.
Together, Shawma and Keneihu have participated in major musical projects and performed on international stages, including the United Nations and the Grammy Awards.
There is a difference between knowing the words to a song and understanding what you are carrying when you sing it.
This study offers the opportunity to learn Yawanawa songs directly from the wisdom keepers of the tradition , with their stories, teachings and context intact.
It is also a way of supporting the continuation and preservation of ancestral Yawanawa ways.
